USCSA Freestyle National Championship Now includes 3 Events:
Ski Jumping, Slopestyle, SkierCross and Halfpipe! The USCSA offers freestyle
events throughout the United States that lead up to the Annual Collegiate National Championships.
What is Freestyle?
Freestyle competitions have been defined in many ways, so there is some understandable confusion.
Freestyle Skiing Competitions, to the USCSA, are competitions that include the following three events:
SkierCross, Slopestyle, and Halfpipe. They are defined in brief below and in more detail within the
USCSA rule book for Freestyle Competition.
SkierCross is an elimination competition where 4 to 6 competitors leave a start gate at the same time
and the top 2 competitors advance on to further rounds of elimination until 4 to 6 competitors remain,
when standings are then based on the order of finish. A SkierCross course is specifically designed to
accommodate a group of skiers racing against each other as they navigate different terrain features, including,
but not limited to, turns, jumps, and rollers (waves). Event order is defined by an initial time trial series, taking
individual competitor times to create a bracket format for competition.
Slopestyle is a competition that makes use of a specially designed course using a series of terrain park features.
The skier performs their skills by using any combination of these terrain features and is scored by a panel of judges.
Judges will evaluate the performance based upon pre-defined criteria stressing amplitude, landing, show, execution
and difficulty of performance. All competitor standings are determined based on the best score out of two runs.
Halfpipe is a channel constructed in the snow in the shape of a "U" and is built to specific technical data. All competitors
are judged based on a series of pre-defined technical elements and the best score out of two runs is used to determine standings.
